Whoa Review by goodroot
Rating
All these years, I didn't show any interest in mechanical keyboards. Just moved, figured I'd upgrade my office with some new gear. Research led me to the CODE. This thing is incredible. I shred articles and code all day. My hands have never fer softer and less tense after a day of work. Red dampeners and brown switches feel gooey and gentle, while still razor accurate and satisfying. Each key stroke softer than any board: mac, ergo; anything! Thousands of key strokes later and my hands aren't aflame. The board has a valuable heft, is feature rich, has unbranded command keys, and oozes quality.

Recommended. 5 out of 5 is too low. 6! 6 I say! (Posted on 6/16/17)
Not as flexible as advertised Review by Alex
Rating
I had to return the keyboard; I can't use it. I use a Mac, and I use the Dvorak keyboard layout. The CODE website promised that the keyboard was as flexible as I am, and that it had DIP switches which would allow me to configure it for use on a Mac as well as with a Dvorak layout. Not until I received it did I learn, to my dismay, that it can't do both—either you can configure it for use on a Mac, or you can configure it for Dvorak, but not both at the same time. This makes it unusable for me. I am aware that there is software that can remap the keys for me, but I work in a pair programming environment, and I can't make layout changes at the software level without them affecting my pair. I'm very disappointed, and I wish the CODE website had been more honest so that I could have known about its limitations before making my purchase.

**REPLY FROM WASD SUPPORT**
We're sorry to hear the keyboard's onboard layout options did not meet your specific needs. We'll be taking this into account for future versions. (Posted on 6/8/17)
Everything you need, nothing you don't (but too expensive outside US) Review by Bill

It's hard to find a high quality keyboard that doesn't have all the "gaming" keyboard nonsense, so I was happy to find this one. And it lives up to the reviews. Solid, exceptional quality in a classic, understated look.

Two gripes though, one large-ish and one small. First, as other reviewers have noted, if you're outside the US, the charges can really add up. I'm in Canada and after the shipping and the duty charged on delivery (and the exchange rate), the keyboard ended up being around C$300. I'm not sure that there's much that WASD can do about this, but it's something to keep in mind.

My small gripe is that even the lowest setting on the backlighting is brighter than I'd like. A few dimmer settings would be nice. (Posted on 5/16/17)
Excellent keyboard; could use some very minor tweaks Review by orev

This is a great keyboard and I'm currently feeling it's better than the Das Keyboard Pro 4 I'm coming from.

Pros: Keys feel very good; backlighting is great; removable cable changes your life when rearranging your work area. Tenkeyless is so much more comfortable when using a mouse. Doesn't have a sharp edge near the wrist area like Das does. Has a mute button as well as volume up/down. Good weight, feels solid. Stays in place on the desk with good grip. 7 levels of brightness options.

Minor tweaks: Menu/Fn key can only be one or the other with the DIP switch change. They should find a way for it to do both, such as press and release becomes Menu key, while press and hold with another key makes it an Fn key; DIP switch label should be attached to the bottom of the keyboard; Would be nice if F10 dimmed the backlight while F11 makes it brighter, so you don't need to cycle all the way to brightest before going back to darker. Good Hardware Review by J

The CODE is a solid choice if you're looking for a higher-end, back-lit keyboard without the useless frills. It's solid, heavy, and includes a lot of practical features such as adjustable, actually-useful back-lighting, media controls and alternate layouts. No RGB rainbow light-shows, illegible typefaces and horrid gamer-aesthetic nonsense here.

The short story: one would be just as comfortable using this keyboard for work, play, committing blunt force trauma, or a healthy mix of all three. (Posted on 4/24/17)
Sturdy. Nice lighting. Questionable cable. Review by Tom

I love the weight of the keyboard. Coupled with the slightly sticky pads on the bottom, the keyboard stays right where it is supposed to. The keys are very nice.

Only one gripe: Inserting the USB cable into the keyboard was not intuitive (the markings on the opposite sides are subtle) and I feel like it's going to come undone or just break one day. It seems like the one weak point on the whole keyboard. The cable itself doesn't want to stay in the little cable channel when I lift the keyboard. (Posted on 4/20/17)
Great keyboard Review by Ian

Great keyboard! The minimal feature set is a nice change from my past keyboards that were festooned with options I never needed or used. The textured finish is a nice change from my other keyboards that show fingerprints immediately. (Posted on 4/20/17)
Great keyboard but maybe not for me Review by Dean

This is keyboard has really great build quality and consistency. Only problem I have is breaking habits from typing on chiclet keyboards for years and am not used to the height of this keyboard. Should probably invest in a wrist support. (Posted on 3/23/17)
better than expected Review by kfast

Having not used a mechanical keyboard in years, but having long considered one, I recently acquired two of them. One uses cherry blue clones and was extremely inexpensive. It's a good keyboard, especially considering the price, but being blues it is quite loud. I got the CODE 87key with brown switches and it's almost perfect for me. The switches have a great feel and are quiet enough for my needs. The LED backlighting is super. I'm using a Mac and got some custom keycaps, textured ones, for the command and function key so I can more easily and accurately press them by feel. Overall my experience with this keyboard and WASD has been first rate. (Posted on 1/23/17)
Perfect keyboard for coders Review by Jesus

The keyboard is amazing! Not giving five stars because at that price I would expect a perfect product and it is not the case. When connected to the PS2 input I need to disconnect and connect again the keyboard to make it works. I know this can be something related to my motherboard, but my previous keyboard was also a PS2 and never gave a problem. (Posted on 1/11/17)
